What Vaccinations do I need for the Everest Base Camp trek

What vaccinations do I need for Everest Base Camp?

Good news, if you're travelling to Nepal from the UK, there are no mandatory vaccinations required for entry. However, there are a few recommended (optional) vaccines that can help keep you safe and healthy while you're out on the trail.

Ultimately, the choice is yours, but getting a quick jab before your trip can offer real peace of mind. It's a small step that could save you a lot of discomfort if you were to fall ill during your adventure.

The most commonly recommended vaccinations for travel to Nepal are tetanus, typhoid, polio, and cholera. These are standard boosters that many people already receive every 10 years. We recommend checking you're up to date with these before you travel.

If you’re already covered, you shouldn’t have any issues from a general health perspective while trekking in Nepal.

One of the optional vaccinations to consider is Rabies. While not unique to Nepal (it’s found in many parts of Asia), some trekkers choose to get vaccinated for peace of mind, especially if they’re spending time in rural areas or around animals.

This really comes down to personal preference even among the EverTrek team! For example, Dave went for the rabies jab, while Andy chose not to. The chances of needing it are very low, but if it helps you feel more relaxed on your trip, it could be worth it.

The rabies vaccine is usually given as a 3-dose course and typically costs around Β£250 in the UK. If you’re unsure, your GP or local travel clinic can give more tailored advice based on your health and travel plans.
Quick Tip - plan ahead

Visit your GP or travel clinic at least 6–8 weeks before departure
Bring your vaccination card (especially if transiting through yellow fever zones)
Pack hand sanitiser and good hygiene habits, they’re just as important as vaccines!

Coming from outside the UK?

If you're travelling from a country other than the UK, vaccination recommendations may differ slightly, so we strongly advise checking your own country’s official travel health guidelines for the most accurate and up-to-date advice.
